Urine Galactomannan-to-Creatinine Ratio for Detection of Invasive Aspergillosis in Patients with Hematological Malignancies.

چکیده
Galactomannan (GM) testing of urine specimens may provide important advantages, compared to serum testing, such as easy noninvasive sample collection. We evaluated a total of 632 serial urine samples from 71 patients with underlying hematological malignancies and found that the urine GM/creatinine ratio, i.e., (urine GM level × 100)/urine creatinine level, which takes urine dilution into account, reliably detected invasive aspergillosis and may be a promising diagnostic tool for patients with hematological malignancies. (This study has been registered at ClinicalTrials.gov under registration no. NCT01576653.).

Background: Patients with prolonged neutropenia and/or severe underlying immunosuppression are at thegreatest risk for disseminated aspergillosis. This study was undertaken to determine the incidence of invasiveaspergillosis by Platelia Aspergillus enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay ELISA kit in high risk children admitted tothe hematology ward of Dr. Faghihi hospital, Shiraz University of Medic...
متن کاملSerum and urine galactomannan testing for screening in patients with hematological malignancies.
Testing for serum galactomannan (GM) has been established as an important method for diagnosing invasive aspergillosis (IA); however, limited data exist regarding the application of urine GM testing. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of GM screening of urine specimens and to compare results with serum GM. The study was performed between July 2012 and March 2013 in adul...
متن کاملDetection of galactomannan in bronchoalveolar lavage of the intensive care unit patients at risk for invasive aspergillosis
Background and Purpose: Invasive aspergillosis (IA) is one of the most common life-threatening fungal infections among the critically ill patients including intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Delayed diagnosis and therapy may lead to poor outcomes. Diagnosis may be facilitated by a test for molecular biomarkers, i.e. detection of galactomannan (GM) antigen based on enzyme immunoassay, which is...
متن کاملNonspecific elevation of serum Aspergillus galactomannan antigen levels in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
BACKGROUND Infections are an important cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Patients receiving immunosuppressive or anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) agents are vulnerable to fungal infections, including those derived from Aspergillus species. Detection of the Aspergillus galactomannan antigen in serum is useful for the early diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis...
